Week of January 6, 2014

6A and 6B are writing Pourquoi Tales
http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plan/teaching-pourquoi-tales

Last Thursday, we started a unit of Folktales/Folklore.  Students will learn about each type of story in this genre.

Tall Tales, Fairy Tales, Myths, Legends, Parables, Fables, and Pourquois

There is no vocabulary this week.  However, students will be expected to know the terms (above) and their definitions.  If your child was not in school last Thursday--they will need to get notes from a classmate.

Monday- finish rough drafts, peer edit, teacher edit, and begin final draft
Tuesday- finish final draft and illustrate
Wednesday- begin research on Tall Tales
Thursday- continue Tall Tales
Friday- begin Fairy Tales, hand in Reading Log, clean out notebooks

6C- started Folklore earlier than the other classes.  They will continue this week.  Students will begin Fairy Tales on Monday and Tuesday, Tall Tales  Wednesday--Friday.

It is now time for students to get their 3rd book for Year Long Book Theme.  For the 3rd Marking Period, students will need to read an Autobiography/Biography.  All students should have a book by this Friday.  I will go over projects with each class and information home will follow shortly after.

DUE DATE FOR THIS REPORT IS MARCH 6TH!!

Before Christmas Break- all students took a practice EOG.  They have all been scored.  We will go over the passages  during Remediation Classes in the morning.  Students will be able to see any answers they missed and why- hopefully keeping them from repeating such mistakes in the future.  I will handwrite each of these scores on the bottom of their report cards so parents know their child's score.
