Week of April 23rd

No vocabulary test this week but we will have more EOG words.  Instead of testing, students will look up examples of each vocabulary word to see how it is used.

6th grade will begin the novel, Stargirl.

There are two more days of  practice testing this week.  I do not know all the details yet.  I will tell students as soon as I know.

Book reports and projects were originally due this Tuesday.  I am postponing that deadline until next Tuesday (May 1st).  No additional extensions will be given.

Let's stay focused and keep our eyes on the prize!!  There are only about 15 days until E.O.G. tests!!

Week of April 16th

Seems we will be practice testing several days this week and next.  In between the craziness of testing schedules we will finish our Propaganda Unit.  Students will learn the secrets behind food styling for advertisements.

We will also discuss several internet hoaxes-it's important to understand that not everything you see is necessarily a whole truth.

Vocabulary words will consist of terms every E.O.G test taker should know.  Please look for those words in your child's three ring binder.  Tests will be on Thursdays.

Every student needs a book at all times.  We will have D.E.A.R time several days a week.

Lately, too many are showing up to class without pencils   All students need to come to class prepared.

Week of April 2nd

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our newspaper and magazine collection!!!

Last week we studied the Inverted Pyramid Writing Style, Leads, and the 5 W's.  Students deconstructed newspaper leads and even wrote a few of their own.

We are in the process of completing Letters to the Editor.  Students brainstormed some 'hot topics'.  We worked as a class to fill in our 4 Square Template and now students will complete the actual letters on their own.

D.E.A.R. time is still very important.  Please make sure your child has a book with them every day.  When we read and summarize in class-there is no reading homework that night.

BUT

There is a Vocabulary test this Thursday.  Everyone has a handout with those words on it. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!
