Week of October 10/27

Ok, let's try this again.  I posted earlier but it didn't save for some reason.

It's already the last week of OCTOBER!!

Report cards will be here before we know it.  Sooooo, please make sure you have your 10 books read and documented before Wednesday, November 5th.




I will print new progress reports sometime this week.  I will send out an email to let you know when to expect them.

Personification Poems are due Tuesday 10/28!  They need to be on plain white paper with an illustration.

Students will have another quiz on Short Story Elements/Vocabulary this week.  Their notes should be in their 3 ring binders.

Please check for Take Home Folders on Monday.  I haven't finished grading the HOW TO speeches yet but there will be other papers requiring your initials.

Students will have Reading Logs this week.  We didn't have them last week due to fieldtrip and no school on Friday.

We will finish the month of October with one more short story- "The Monkey's Paw".

Week of 10/13

There are still several students who did not complete the essay portion of their Freak the Mighty Final Exam.  Those students will finish Monday.  Anyone who is unhappy with the score they received on the essay portion of the test will be able to redo/revise their essay on a loose leaf sheet of notebook paper and resubmit it (with original test) by Friday of this week.

We are still working on Short Story Elements.  There will be a quiz this week on PLOTLINE but no Vocabulary Test again this week.

Rough Draft of HOW TO Speeches are due this week-depending on what day they have me for 'Skinny'.

We will continue working on October Book this week with mini-lessons on Personification and Concrete Poems.

Overview of the week  October 6th-10th

I am not posting Vocabulary Words today.  I have handouts for the students and I want to go over each word with them and give several examples of each.  The words we get on October 6th will be studied for 2 weeks before we test.  So, the test on the next list of words will be OCTOBER 16TH.  There will be no Vocabulary Test on Oct. 9th.

We will begin studying the elements of Short Stories this week.

Students will have homework every night this week.  Please look for a Reading Log.  Each child will receive one on Monday.  Please check to see if your child is behind on their reading (10 books for this 9 weeks).
