Week of January 22nd!

I hope all of you enjoyed the "Oscars" and incentive ( not to mention the 4 day weekend)!!!

BUT NOW...

It's time to get back to work.

Remediation will now meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Please check that your child has graded work for you to sign on Tuesday.  I'm sending lots of it home.

Vocabulary this week will be a RETEST of the words students received 2 weeks ago.  The grades were less than terrific.  So, if you got a 100%, no vocabulary test for you this week.  However, everyone else will retest Friday.

Saturday, January 12, 2013

January 14,15,16, and 17

What a busy week!!

First of all...please ask your child to see their current grade.  I will give every student their most
up-to-date grade on Monday.  If you aren't sure that grade will make it home to you...please email me and I will send you the grade and explanation ( if one is needed).  PLEASE know that this grade may still change a point or two as I add a few more quizzes and homeworks.

On Monday, we will continue to work on Immigration projects.  We had nothing but trouble last week.  Our technology WOULD NOT cooperate. We had the IPADS for 2 days and couldn't even connect to the internet.  Whatcha gonna do???

We will also review our vocabulary words.  Yes, we postponed the test because we just didn't have the time to study with all the set backs.  So, the test will be on Wednesday and will be the same list of words that were in the last blog.

Tuesday is our field trip.  Please meet at the school so we can get everyone in the correct car.  Lunch will be at Golden Corral.  You should have already filled out paperwork for Mrs. Harris if you plan on signing your child out early.

Wednesday we will have our vocabulary test.  We will also continue working on our hall display of our research of all the different countries.

Thursday Morning is our "Oscar/Hollywood" Party.  I sent home flyers before Christmas.  We NEED breakfast items like muffins, bagels, cream cheese and juice.  I am taking care of decorations and paper products but I need help with the food.

We will do "Oscars" from 8:30-10.  Then we are having a Hollywood Themed Dance Party as our Quarterly Incentive.

Lunch will be normal.  All students still need to bring or buy lunch.

Students should feel free to wear Celebrity Attire.  We will have paparazzi ( the yearbook staff) and plenty of other photo ops.

Immigrant Interviews and recipes are due Jan. 31st!!!!

Sunday, January 6, 2013

January 7th- 11 th

On Monday, we will have our Folk Tale test.  Students were given a list on Friday of everything that would be on the test so they could prepare over the weekend.

Our next Common Core Unit will be Immigration.  New vocabulary will be given on Monday and test is on Thursday.

We will have lessons on the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Angel Island.

Students will also complete a research project in class (hopefully) on the IPADS.  They will research a certain group of immigrants and we will turn the 6th grade hallway into a Cultural Museum.

Students will be required to interview someone from another country and collect a recipe.  All of the recipes will be turned into a Recipe Book for each student to keep.

6C will read  Ashes of Roses by Mary Jane Auch.
