Week of January 27th...

ALL STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE A BOOK TO READ EVERY DAY!!!

AUTO/BIOGRAPHIES TITLES ARE PAST DUE!!!!

GET THOSE SIGNED REPORT CARDS RETURNED TO YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER.

VOCABULARY WORDS WERE GIVEN LAST WEEK BUT WE HAVE THE TEST THIS THURSDAY.

6C will begin Black History Month ( a little early ).  Students will learn about the Middle Passage.
We will read The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano.

Students will work in groups to complete a culminating activity.

Students will design (draw ) a memorial for the Africans forced to undergo the trauma of the Middle Passage.
Students will write a 150-200 word plaque or inscription for the memorial. This writing sample will define the Middle Passage, explain the economic factors that created a market for African slaves, and describe the fatal conditions Africans faced on slave ships.

6A and 6B-
Well, we didn't get quite as far as I thought we would last week BUT that's ok...we do things CORRECTLY not QUICKLY.

On Monday, we will finish FABLES and work on editing and revising our Pourquois.

On Tuesday, we will continue those Pourquois.  It is so important to get students to understand plotline, sequence of events, character development, and details.  Also, I cannot seem to get the idea across --if you don't know how to spell something- LOOK IT UP!
Students will have access to computers in the morning to type their pourquoi.

We should be able to begin Mythology on Tuesday or Wednesday.  Students will do online research on Ancient Greece. They will make a god/goddess booklet on each Olympian.

6A and 6B will work on IPADS to do some research on Ancient Greece.  They will also begin Myths.

MONDAY, TUESDAY, AND WEDNESDAY

We will continue our unit on Folklore.

Last week, we read a Fairytale called Yeh-Shen (the Chinese Cinderella).  Students will complete 4 worksheets on this tale.  These will be the last 4 grades entered before Report Cards.

We will also begin research for Tall Tales.    Many regions in the United States have their own tall-tale heroes and heroines.  These tales paint pictures of the people, land, and animals of that region.

Students will use Ipads to research regions in the United States from the bayous of Louisiana to the Rocky Mountain-- the deserts of the Southwest to the Florida Everglades.

Again, there will be no vocabulary test.  However, students continue to be responsible for the terms we copied into their notebooks last week.

Guidelines for next book report for 6A and 6B only.  Book Report is Due March 6th.  Handout is coming home with each student before Wednesday.

DUE DATE FOR THIS REPORT IS MARCH 6TH!!

Before Christmas Break- all students took a practice EOG.  They have all been scored.  We will go over the passages  during Remediation Classes in the morning.  Students will be able to see any answers they missed and why- hopefully keeping them from repeating such mistakes in the future.  I will handwrite each of these scores on the bottom of their report cards so parents know their child's score.
