Week of March 10th

6A and 6B will have the same vocabulary words again this week.  Students who earned a 100% get the week off.  Students who earned an A can decide if they want to take the test again.  Everyone else, you will retest on Thursday.

6A brought some graded papers home on Friday.  6A and 6B will be bringing graded papers home on Monday (including the aforementioned vocabulary tests).  Please make sure all of these get signed and returned to me ASAP.  Thank You.

6C will finish mini-research project on Ipads in class on Monday.  They will also receive new vocabulary terms.

Our unit on immigration will begin this week.  6C students will begin a new novel, Ashes of Roses.  They will read both in class and at home with weekly quizzes on designated chapters.

6C will also be required to conduct an Immigrant Interview.  I am requesting your help in finding a person that your child can interview.  This person may be a relative, friend, neighbor, etc.  The only requirement is that the person  interviewed was born in another country.  I will supply a list of questions to ask.  The final product will be a 5 paragraph, informative paper about the person your child interviewed.

STUDENTS:
Follow this format for each paragraph, using the information below.  Take your time and do your best.

Introduction:

Include name, age or year the person was born, relationship of interviewer, birthplace or where they came from, where they live now, hobbies and interests.

Body Paragraph:

1)When and why they left (experiences)
2)Travel
3)Experiences in America

Conclusion:

Talk about what they are like today.  Would the person return to his or her homeland? Why? Then give an overall opinion of the interview and restate your main idea.

Also, each interview must include a recipe.  You will need to have that typed or neatly written on a separate sheet of paper.  Include  the name of dish, country of origin, all ingredients, measurements, and directions.
